Be Careful What You Wish for

I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying, “Be careful what you wish for!” Well, I have been wishing for my stepkids to develop more of a social life. I’ve wanted them to be out with friends doing what typical teens do.

At their ages, I was never home. Once I could drive, I was out all the time. That’s the age where you should be separating from your parents and learning who you are through your own experiences and through experiences with friends. But, my stepkids weren’t doing this.

I know these days it seems to be different for many teens. With social media, more and more kids are on-line rather than out in the real world. But still, I wanted them to be out…

Well, here’s where the saying comes into play. Recently both kids got jobs. They work at the same place, too. And they are making friends. They have a whole crew they hang out with. They are going to movies, playing miniature golf, going to friends’ houses to play video games. They are even planning camping trips, and Disneyland days. We hardly ever see them anymore. They are gone all the time, either working or socializing. They are doing exactly what I have wished for them, and now I miss them both. Be careful what you wish for… 😉
